Instructor and Awards Judge Howard Friedland AISM

Painting en plein air is a completely different experience from working from photos in the comfort of your studio.  In this fun and relaxed one-day workshop, we’ll explore how to prepare for the many challenges that come with painting on location.

    Thursday Evening, April 30

Join me for an introductory lecture and demonstration—either indoors from a photo reference or outdoors from life, depending on weather and lighting conditions.

    Friday Morning, May 1

We’ll begin with a brief review of Thursday’s lecture, then set up to paint. Once everyone is working, I’ll circulate to answer questions, offer suggestions, and provide individual guidance as you paint at your easel.

    Topics will include:

    • Weather conditions
    • Time management
    • Personal protection
    • Materials, equipment and tools
    • Packing for a variety of venues
    • Dos and Don’ts in the field

Plus, many additional tips and practical procedures to make your experience easier and help you stay focused on your painting.
