Honest conversations about the realities of being a working artist.

There are endless resources available for painting techniques — but far fewer spaces to talk honestly about the day-to-day realities of an artistic life. As if we “only” had to paint!

Fresh Impressions is a monthly webinar series created for artists who want practical conversations about navigating a creative career: juried shows, travel, studio organization, social media, community, AI tools, and everything in between.

Hosted by Board Secretary Chris Rapa AIS and Julie Davis AIS, each session features candid discussion, guest artists and experts, audience Q&A, and actionable takeaways designed to support artists at every stage of their journey.

This is not about how to paint. It’s about how to BE a practicing artist.

When: Third Thursdays

Time: 1:00 PM Eastern / 10:00 AM Pacific

WHAT TO EXPECT

* Monthly live webinars

* Guest artists and field experts

* Interactive Q&A

* Curated member questions

* Follow-up resources after each session including a link to watch later.

GOAL: To create a space where artists feel comfortable asking the questions they think they should already know the answers to and discover new possibilities to develop an art practice.

Learn more about Chris Rapa AIS

Chris is an American painter, living and working amidst the rolling hills and farms of Carroll County, Maryland. Her contemporary Impressionist work ranges from still life and landscape to interior spaces washed in natural light. She works in oil, gouache, and mixed media, inspired by the way color and light transform the everyday into something quietly extraordinary. Meaning is at the heart of her creative process as she seeks to weave emotion, intention, and narrative into every piece. Whether through luminous landscapes or arrangements of flowers and treasured objects, her art is driven by a desire to create connection. Chris strives to make work that is visually appealing, engages the viewer, and opens a dialogue of meaningful conversation.

Exhibiting in national juried shows, and competing in plein air events throughout the country, Chris has received numerous awards and has been featured in national art publications. She is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, an Associate with Distinction member of American Women Artists, and an active member of the Oil Painters of America. Chris is also a member of the prestigious Washington Society of Landscape Painters.
